A boat, a train, a castle!

A visit to Bodiam Castle in East Sussex has been on the cards for a while now, even though  I have visited it before some years ago my interest in Medieval history has blossomed,  so we decided to catch the boat from Northiam and approach the Castle by river. I looked up the weather last week and they forecasted about 21 deg which would have been perfect but yesterday was a scorcher, 'you could fry and egg on the pavement sort of day'   not my favourite weather!! The boat takes about forty five minutes and the approach to the Castle is breath taking. Lunch at The Castle pub and then on to the Castle. It was built in 1385 by Sir Edward Dalyngrigge, a former Knight of Edward III to defend the area against French invasion. Most of the interior of the Castle is ruins but you can see how magnificent it would have been.

On the boat to the Bodiam, the bridge was built in 1706

We caught the steam train back from Bodiam to Northiam boat station

If you get a chance to visit Bodiam it's a great day out!
