Waking up to a Winter Wonderland!

My apologies for missing Flashback Friday, I have been really poorly with the flu/cold/lurgy, whatever it was I don't think I have ever felt so ill. I literally couldn't get out of bed for quite a few days and still have a smoker's cough even though I have never smoked! Well it looks as though my cabin fever won't end this week as we woke to a Winter Wonderland of deep snow, well deep for us! I just had to get out for some air and the magical sparkling world of virgin snow. I took a few photos of the lane where I live, so in place of my missed post here they are. Flashback Friday-A splash of nostalgic self indulgence!

I suppose all of us have different but wonderful memories of our childhood favourite places, a time of freedom and with  little responsibilty except to find exciting things to do. Summers always seemed long and hot so my very favourite thing to do was spend as much time as possible at the outdoor Lido in a lovely park in London.  A short walk from my home, down past my school church, Holy Trinity, and into the gates of the park. past the stunning Brockwell Hall where we would have our lunch and then down to the Lido to meet friends and spend the day swimming and sunning ourselves. Brockwell Lido opened in 1937 and is still going strong, much posher now but one of the only few remaining open air Lidos in London. Below are a few photos of Brockwell Park and the Lido where I spent a lot of my young life, such wonderful memories!

The Northern Lights

 One of my lifelong ambitions is to see the unbelievably beautiful Northern Lights. A wonder of nature that is mostly seen in Scandinavian countries but it has been on the news that the UK may be seeing this unique sight. It has to be a clear night and the weather this week has been dull, rainy and overcast but on Friday it s due to be a lovely bright sunny day and night. So I will be night sky watching, cannot risk missing this display of nature's natural wonders. The video below is of one of my very favourite people Joanna Lumley searching for the Norther Lights, she finally finds them almost on the last day, I find this incredibly moving and it literally brings me to tears, music by Peer Gynt, hope you enjoy it!
